Finally! I have no idea what took Kirstie Clements so long, but this is Miranda Kerr’s first Vogue Australia cover ever. It is also the first VA cover, showing a pregnant woman and from the tiny preview that we got so far, it looks beautiful! I hope this means that Miranda will be featured more often in Vogue Australia, I expect her to have a phenomenal comeback as a model once she took some time off for the family. How cool must it be for the baby, especially if it’s gonna be a girl! In about 18 years she will be like “Yep, that was my first Vogue cover”. And maybe not the last…

Time to get the gold foil out…

vogue Time to get the gold foil out...

It’s November! I can’t believe it! November means almost december which means almost christmas which means almost NYE. I am looking forward to christmas time, all the lights and green, red and gold colors will decorate everything, even magazines! Vogue UK and Harper’s Bazaar UK seem to be in a christmas mood already, the fonts on their december covers are shiny and gold. Magazines love to do that for their christmas issues and I don’t mind it, it looks quite nice and even a bit more “expensive”. Especially Emma Watson’s cover looks season appropriate, it reminds me of snow because of all the white! Now I’m very curious to see what Vogue Germany will come up with…

Stam and Stone in Vogue UK

larassstone Stam and Stone in Vogue UK

I havent bought a Vogue UK for a long time since I wasnt really impressed of the editorials lately, but I might just have to spend those 12 Euros for the November issue. Lara Stone is on the cover and has a lovely ed inside, where she reminds me a lot of Marylin Monroe. The pictures at the beach have a strong vintage vibe and show the soft and feminine side of Lara who often comes across as too strong and almost bitchy in most of her photoshoots (imo). Another great editorial shows Jessica Stam who is an all time favorite of mine. You gotta love her eyes. Keep it comin’ Vogue UK!

VOGUE Germany’s new layout…

may6r 9ccaea75 VOGUE Germanys new layout...

The October cover of Vogue Germany was published today and it’s soooo…. weird!!! They seem to have a new layout with a very crazy and big font. Three different colors are used too, which is just too much for one cover. And the sentence at the bottom “Das ist Vogue!” (This is Vogue) seems rather ridiculous and unnecessary. Anja Rubik is the model on the cover and she looks quite lovely, if only she wouldnt drown in all those words! What a waste of a beautiful shot… just imagine the cover without the words, just the black Vogue font and maybe one or two words at the bottom. Thats it. Vogue needs to fire their layout department staff.

The Trend Issue

tumblr l86huvbbqx1qab011o1 500 The Trend Issue

I guess one can say that I read a lot of fashion magazines. Probably more than anyone I know. This means that I have read many editorials and texts of fashion editors, directors and stylist praising the latest trends. At the moment of course, fashion mags are full with the fall/winter collections and I read stuff like “Fall Must-Haves” and “What to wear now” in every single one of them. Editors write that the time of 52 different kinds of grey is over and that it’s time for beautiful colors like orange and green. This made me think. If the majority of designers had shown only shades of black and grey in their fall collections, we would now read things like “The new trend color grey” or “Grey: versatile and classic”.

Every season, editors and fashionistas around the world praise the trends that designers set. And it seems like every trend can be justified. Take for example florals. Now, they might be described as “The comback of femininity”. In a few months the same editors or blogger or whoever interested in fashion might describe florals as “tacky and old fashioned”.

Even I find myself hating things that I loved some time ago. Are we too influenced by the media? Do designers make the trends? Does that make us hypocrites? All I know is that fashion should not be taken too serious (wait…what…did I just say that?!) and that everyone should wear what they feel comfortable in. I just wish that fashion magazines could come up with new headlines and stop the same old recycled terms like “new key-pieces”. Fashion magazines should be more opinionated. Just because something is new or someone important created it, does not make it a “must-have”.

Anyways, I do love my fashion mags and this isnt really a major issue, it’s just something that I found a little bit irritating. But maybe that’s just me…

mirandavi Miranda Kerr and Frankie rock Vogue Italia

Miranda Kerr got the cover of the September issue of Vogue Italia. Of course this is a huge thing in the fashion industry and it marks the peak of Miranda’s career. The photos shot by Steven Meisel show lots of different sides of Miranda and she is great at posing! I mean…look at all her bending and jumping and trying to hide her baby bump ; ) Anyways, beautiful ed, cute cover with her dog Frankie and the fact that it’s in 3D makes me even more anxious to buy the issue.

Thanx to mayfrayn at TFS for scanning.

septissues The September Issues

You all probably know this, but for those who dont: The September issues of fashion magazines are the most important ones of the year. So it’s always interesting to see what covers the magazines come up with. While Vogue US and Vogue UK published very boring covers, having Halle Berry and Kate Moss on them, Australian Vogue and Harpers Bazaar - in my opinion - have the best September issues of the year. Elle Macpherson still looks stunning for her age and presents the pink feminine Louis Vuitton dress very well. It’s like couture mixed with a casual vibe, because she’s not wearing shoes. Even more amazing is Cat McNeils Vogue cover, I love the 50s meets Rock n Roll style. The third Septmeber cover that I like comes from Vogue Portugal. It is a bit weird, because it’s black and white and Olga almost looks like a ghost, but the way the dress and her hair are blown by the wind is a real eye-catcher on a cover. I’ll definitely try to get my hands on the three magazines and will -again- skip Vogue US, sorry Anna.

untitledh Best RUSSH cover ever

I found it! The best cover of the summer! And who thought it would be Alessandra Ambrosio for RUSSH? I used to think that Ale’s look is quite boring but this beauuuutiful cover and the editorial prove me wrong. Ale can be versatile. And RUSSH can come up with good covers. What a surprise. Anyways, on another note I wanna apologize for not blogging that much lately, but even a blogger needs a small summer break ; )

I guess it’s fair to say that Natasha Poly is one of the most successful models of the past 5 years. For the month of July 2010 she is currently on three Vogue covers, two of them took a reprint from Vogue Paris’ May issue and look sooo summery, the covers make you wanna get your bikini and jump into the next pool. Especially Vogue Korea did a really great job in my opinion. I am not sure if any other model has had three Vogue covers in one month so, congrats Natasha!

push it issue 2 defender mcqueen dress cover PUSH IT! New covers

I’m such a lover of good magazine covers. You could give me a big package full of random magazines and I would be so excited to look at all the covers. Good photography is important and a good styling of the model as well. PUSH IT magazine has their PUSH IT I Issue 2 -Defender issues out now and shows four different covers all shot by Frank Berlin. My favorite? The one with the unforgettable gold Alexander McQueen dress…
