Queen’s Day with Natasha Poly

Last week, I got to spend Queen’s Day with my friends in Amsterdam. It was a whole lot of fun, we rented a boat and went through Amsterdam’s iconic canals all day. At one point, I spotted this beautiful blonde woman sitting on the boat next to me. She was wearing a black fur coat and huge designer sunglasses. And then I thought “I know those cheekbones“!

It was Natasha Poly and - just like the first time I met her (read about it here) - nobody else seemed to know/recognize her so when I yelled her name she seemed surprised. I asked if I could take her picture and she happily posed for me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a glimpse of her baby bump because of the huge coat. Her husband was on the boat too (and some very cheap looking girls) and they seemed to have a good time.

So now I’ve bumped into Natasha Poly twice. Pretty cool if you ask me. Hmm… I wonder which other topmodel I will meet in the future. I would love to bump into Frida Gustavsson or Daphne Groeneveld. You never know… they might be just around the corner.

Street Style Crush: Alessandra Ambrosio

She is on a roll at the moment. Alessandra Ambrosio has two beautiful children, gets to wear the million dollar fantasy bra at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2012, and also manages to look incredibly stylish every day. Lately there have been tons of paparazzi pictures of Ale and it always amazes me how effortlessly cool she looks. While getting Starbucks yesterday, Ale wore a mint coloured Tee and a matching watch and sunglasses. So simple, yet so important for a good outfit. I’m also in love with her jean jacket with leather sleeves and her always shiny long hair. Can this woman look bad? I doubt it. Note to myself: Don’t limit colour matching to clothing, include accessories!

Meeting Miranda Kerr at Vogue FNO Sydney

p1100976 Meeting Miranda Kerr at Vogue FNO Sydney

Yesterday, at Sydney’s Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, I got to meet Miranda Kerr. If you’ve read my blog in the past, you now that I am a big fan of hers pretty much ever since I first saw her in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2006. So when I read that Miranda would be at FNO to promote her KORA Organics line, I didn’t hesitate to get there early, line up for 45 min, spend a small fortune on her products (review will follow) and then…. finally meeting her and getting our picture taken.

I’m afraid there’s nothing surprising to say about her. She’s gorgeous, she’s very friendly, she’s patient and very professional. It seems like Miranda has it all. Her mum was there too and I could definitely see where Miranda got her good looks from. 2012 seems to be a good year for me for meeting supermodels. After KK in January, Miranda was the icing on the cake.

Besides my fan-experience there, FNO was a whole lot of fun. My friends and I took tons of funny pictures, drank heaps of free drinks and in between all the craziness and thousands of people, we even managed to shop a little. The warm night with temperatures around 20 degrees made it even more pleasant to walk around Pitt Street and Martin Place.

While holding all the goodie bags, drinks, and polaroids, it was hard to take my own pictures, but I managed to get a few snaps:

All American Girl

fashion scans remastered jessica hart elle itali 2 All American Girl

I don’t know why, but I am a sucker for stars and stripes. I guess it’s the combination of red white and blue that makes me love the all American Style so much. Unfortunately, I feel a bit weird walking around with a flag on my body, still, there’s nothing wrong with admiring the style in editorials.

ELLE Italy just published a very American ed, paradoxically starring Aussie model Jessica Hart. Oh well, I guess if we didn’t know she was Australian, she could easily pass an an American girl. The bottom line is, it’s a great photo shoot and a great cover with a great model and great clothes and I don’t want you to miss out on it:

Pink Lady Flavia Oliveira

Hundreds, if not thousands of editorials are shot every month and it is a shame that only the ones from big publications get the attention they deserve. While in Italy last week, I bought the May issue of Italian ELLE and was so impressed by their editorials. Especially the Pink Lady one with Flavia Oliveira caught my eye as it is a lot of fun and beautiful at the same time. Flavia is an amazing and -imo- very underrated model and looks amazing in this 70s inspired styling. All of her outfits are styled in beautiful shades of pink and her accessory is -what could be more suitable- Pink Panther! This definitely goes in the top 10 of my favorite editorials of 2012, have a look:

Australian Fashion Week Beauty Inspiration

Down Under, the Australian Fashion Week has just come to an end, which, for me, means that it’s time to look at the hair and make up of some of the shows. For some reason, I have the feeling that Australia is extra-creative when it comes to the models’ styling. They love to try new things and aren’t afraid to mix colors. My favorite hair and make up definitely goes to Alice McCall, who was inspired by Hungary and the ‘Babushka’ look. The messy milk maid braid is nothing new, but I still can’t get enough of it and the combination with baby blue eyes and rosy lips is just too cute!

A bolder look could be seen at Magdalena Velevska. Very dark eyebrows were combined with yellow lips. Yes, YELLOW lips! A bit crazy, but definitely something you wont forget. I kind of like it. Of course, it’s not an everyday look, but the contrast of dark brows and light lips really works for me!

Last, but not least, the most summery and fun styling of them all: We Are Handsome. That’s the name of the brand, just FYI. The colorful styling just screamed “beach party!!!”. Again, the lips were the focus, but this time, one color wasn’t enough. Both Orange and Pink were used on the lips. Now if this isn’t encouraging to try something new, I don’t know what is…

Blazer, Tee, Skinnies = Perfection

fall 2012 models mrna okr hg5ax Blazer, Tee, Skinnies = Perfection

Dayum, girl, lookin’ good! That’s what I thought when I saw this picture of this -to me- unknown model’s street style. I am always surprised how powerful blazers can be. For some reason, I am very easily impressed by street styles that include blazers and if they’re some other color than black, well, I love them even more. This coral colored one is very bright and very noticeable. It would probably look quite tacky if combined with another bright color, but with this plain white tee (or maybe silk tee?!) and black skinnies, it’s perfect! This might be my favorite street style of the season even though it’s simple. But sometimes, simple is best.

Oh and, I am sure one of you knows this model’s name, feel free to tell me!

A Newbie in Paris : Montana Cox Is Killing It

Montana at Dior

I told you before that I was a huge fan of Australia’s Next Topmodel winner Montana Cox and was hoping to see her on the Fashion Week runways soon. Well, Montana surprised everyone with her many appearances not only in Milan, but also in Paris. She booked shows like Bottega Veneta, Etro, Pucci, Mugler, and even Lanvin and Dior, which should save her a spot in topmodel heaven. Her showlist is impressive and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see little Monty at Chanel later this week. What a great career start!

Montana Cox for David Jones

If you’re not Australian, you probably don’t know Montana Cox yet, unless you have watched last season of Australia’s Next Topmodel, which Montana, or ‘Monty’ as people call her, won. Now, I have watched all cycles of Germany’s Next Topmodel, some of America’s Next Topmodel and some of Australia’s Next Topmodel and I thik I am not the only one thinking that no winner has ever had as much potential to be successful as a model as Montana Cox.

Montana just got that modern look about her that the fashion industry loves, she can do commercial stuff very well and with a bit more experience, I am sure she can be editorial, too. David Jones has made Montana one of their spokesmodels alongside Miranda Kerr and I really like the first catalogue pics that have surfaced now. Sure, it’s just a catalogue shoot, nothing special, but with the right people and agencies around her, I am sure Montana has a great career ahead of her. Let’s hope she surprises us with some editorial work soon.
