It’s not very nice to just stop posting new blog entries so I thought I’d let you know that I am taking a summer break (I’m still in Australia). Sometimes you just need to step away from something for a while… but I’ll be back and leave you with this wonderful photo of Barbara Fialho, how stunning is her face?! xoxo

Pinterest and Olivia Newton-John

I am not a huge hanger-on when it comes to all those social media sites. If you read blogs nowadays and look at their sidebars, you often see this overload of other sites that the blogger uses. There’s of course facebook, which I use too but only for personal contacts (and I would like to keep it that way), but then there are about a billion other things like twitter, tumblr, skype, youtube, myspace, google+ ect…. I find it way too time consuming to use all of this, but last week I decided to jump on the bandwagon of one of the latest hyped sites in the world wide web, Pinterest. I chose to because a) I was bored and b) because I love the idea of collecting pictures that inspire you.

So now, my dear readers, you can follow me on Pinterest if you care. The link is in the sidebar.

While I was browsing through hundreds of pictures on Pinterest, I stumbled upon this one showing Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta (try to ignore his hideous hair) walking through a park sometime in the 70s. I just could not help but notice how absolutely timeless Olivia’s outfit was. If Natasha Poly walked around the streets of New York in this today, no one would say she looks weird or dated. Black jeans, a loose white T-Shirt, a golden watch and nerd glasses paired with minimal make up and a casual ponytail. Fashion hasn’t changed that much after all, has it?

Style Crush Lauren Conrad

It is 11.30 pm and I had a really busy day, but before I go to sleep I just have to blog about Lauren Conrad really quickly. I know that there are a lot of people who do not like Lauren Conrad or her style, because she is ‘just another rich girl that got famous through reality TV’. I say, fair enough! But to me, Lauren Conrad is refreshingly different from all the Paris Hiltons out there.

I admit that I am partly biased because I pretty much spent my teenage years watching Laguna Beach (Anyone remember Stephen Colletti? Sigh…) and The Hills, which means that I kind of got to watch Lauren grow up on TV. She was always the most ‘normal’ one on every show and always looked cute and well put together. This hasn’t changed, she still seems down to earth and her looks are always very polished and neat.

Sometimes, Lauren tries something new, just like a couple of days ago at one of her book signings, where she showed up with a ponytail and pink hair tips! Obviously this isn’t very ‘Lauren’, but I love people who have fun with their styling, and she does! Moreover, how amazing is her outfit? The studded collar is to die for and I love that she still wears the same Chanel bags that she wore ten years ago, they’re classic and timeless!

Ok, I think I made my point clear, HUGE Lauren Conrad fan over here! Now I can go to bed and sleep in peace.

P.S. I can’t believe I missed her book signing in NY, I left one day before she was there, dammit!

The Big Apple

092 The Big Apple

Last week, the “city” in “Nadine And The City” was New York. I spent wonderful eight days there and can now say that I have a new favorite city. I liked everything, from the street numbering which makes it so easy to find your way around, to the many bagel places to the friendly people etc etc etc. I wish I had had more time to explore the smaller streets of Manhattan, but I still got a pretty good impression of the city. Another aspect why I love NY is the fact that it really is full of fashion! And I don’t just mean stores, I mean fashion shoots and models. I witnessed three(!) fashion shoots while walking around, something that would never happen in Berlin or most other big cities. It was hard picking pictures (we took over 1000) for this blog, but the ones below show you 1. Times Square/42nd street 2. Tiffany&Co 3. Toni Garrn on a huge VS ad 4. A fashion magazine store (or heaven) 5. Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes

Enjoy!

Tomorrow is THE day, I am going to the Big Apple, the Empire State, the city that never sleeps, New York City. I have been to Florida, California, and Hawaii before, but never to NY. Therefore, I am waaay too excited for words. Besides wanting to do the stereotype tourist activities like Ellis Island, Ground Zero, Central Park, Grand Central Station, etc etc etc, I am also looking forward to some serious shopping. Jersey Gardens - be prepared! This outlet mall includes 220 shops and I plan to leave a lot of money there. Depending whether I have good WLAN in my hotel or not, I will post updates here during my stay or after I return. I can’t wait!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Yes, I know, it’s kind of a weird day with way too much kitsch and tackiness everywhere. But if you’re lucky like me, you can just spend a romantic day with your loved one. So here are some romantic pictures that are not tacky or cheesy, but simply cute.

2011 Fashion Thoughts

 2011 Fashion Thoughts

Happy New Year dear readers! 2011 was full of great fashion moments, inspiring street styles and shocking designer changes. Here are some fashion thoughts of mine on 2011.

Biggest fashion moment was probably Kate Middleton stepping out of the car in her Alexander McQueen wedding dress. I absolutely loved it and am happy that such a beautiful dress will go down in history.

Models that impressed me this year were Frida Gustavsson, Lindsay Wixson, Constance Jablonski, Miranda Kerr, and Bambi Northwood-Blyth. I was dosappointed by the lack of Natasha Poly, hope to see her more often in 2012.

The trend of 2011 was definitely color blocking, and it was fun, but I am over it. Give me pastels, black, and prints, please.

Biggest fashion shock of 2011? Mister John Galliano. WTF was he thinking? It is very sad that we will not see more of his talent, although I do think that his best times at Dior were over long before his ‘mishap’.

The best street style 2011 award would go to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Miranda Kerr. They just never failed to impress. It’s like they were born elegant and effortlessly chic.

Best cover of 2011? I have no idea. There were lots of good ones, but also lots of really bad ones. I always enjoy Vogue Australia’s covers and Vogue Turkey hardly ever disappoints as well.

Best make up at a fashion show? I adored the matte pink lips at Fendi and the hair at Valentino.

That’s about all I can come up with right now. I would love to hear your fashion thoughts on 2011! Leave a comment if you want :)

Books for Christmas

picture 4 Books for Christmas

Less than two weeks until christmas and some of you are probably wrecking their brains trying to think of a good christmas gift for a friend. Well, a good book is always a treat and for everyone who isn’t into novels (like me), there are quite a few random books out there that I think would make really lovely gifts.

For the fashionistas among us, there is Icons of Fashion which kind of serves as an encyclopedia of fashion icons of the 20th century. For the more creative and crafty ones, I recommend Fashion Frocks, which shows some of the most iconic dresses of all time and offers patterns for recreating them! How cool is that?

And then there are two other books that I just have to tell you about, one is a classic, and the other is so random and cute that it’s hard to ignore. Let’s start with the classic. Where’s Wally used to be one of my favorite books when I was a child and I still find pleasure in trying to find that funny little guy. I’m sure a lot of people would love this as a christmas gift!

And the last one, no need for a lot of words, just look at it. It’s an entire book about the cutest dog in the world, Boo. Yes. That’s it. Photos of Boo in different daily situations. Adorable, funny, and most of all, very random. Perfect as a gift!

All books are available at Urban Outfitters.

Tights and Socks and What to Do With Them

photo1 Tights and Socks and What to Do With Them

This weekend, I finally organized my tights and socks. What’s there to organize, you might ask. Well, basically all my socks and tights were just thrown in a corner that no one could see before and I found myself hectically looking for the right pair every morning. But then, I had this awesome idea. My mum once gave me this hanger with holes that apparently is supposed to be used for scarves. Instead of hanging scarves on it, I just hung my tights through the holes and even organized them according to colors. That will hopefully save me some time in the morning. My socks, on the other hand, are still a mess… if anyone has tips on how to organize socks, let me know!

It’s Oktoberfest Time!

stegnerquer dw pol 1218804s Its Oktoberfest Time!

Tomorrow the beer mayhem will start again for me and my friends, we will go to Oktoberfest! I had so much fun last time (two years ago) so I am really excited to go back. Moreover, Munich is like my second home now since I lived there for three months during my internship at InStyle. My dirndl this year looks quite traditional, red and white, and I even got a suiting hat, necklace and pretzel earrings! As some of you might know, Julia Stegner loves to attend Oktoberfest, too and was actually discovered there, which makes it an important places for Julia. I really hope I’ll see her there this year, that would be like the cherry on top of a great trip!
