 2011 Fashion Thoughts

Happy New Year dear readers! 2011 was full of great fashion moments, inspiring street styles and shocking designer changes. Here are some fashion thoughts of mine on 2011.

Biggest fashion moment was probably Kate Middleton stepping out of the car in her Alexander McQueen wedding dress. I absolutely loved it and am happy that such a beautiful dress will go down in history.

Models that impressed me this year were Frida Gustavsson, Lindsay Wixson, Constance Jablonski, Miranda Kerr, and Bambi Northwood-Blyth. I was dosappointed by the lack of Natasha Poly, hope to see her more often in 2012.

The trend of 2011 was definitely color blocking, and it was fun, but I am over it. Give me pastels, black, and prints, please.

Biggest fashion shock of 2011? Mister John Galliano. WTF was he thinking? It is very sad that we will not see more of his talent, although I do think that his best times at Dior were over long before his ‘mishap’.

The best street style 2011 award would go to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Miranda Kerr. They just never failed to impress. It’s like they were born elegant and effortlessly chic.

Best cover of 2011? I have no idea. There were lots of good ones, but also lots of really bad ones. I always enjoy Vogue Australia’s covers and Vogue Turkey hardly ever disappoints as well.

Best make up at a fashion show? I adored the matte pink lips at Fendi and the hair at Valentino.

That’s about all I can come up with right now. I would love to hear your fashion thoughts on 2011! Leave a comment if you want :)

Books for Christmas

picture 4 Books for Christmas

Less than two weeks until christmas and some of you are probably wrecking their brains trying to think of a good christmas gift for a friend. Well, a good book is always a treat and for everyone who isn’t into novels (like me), there are quite a few random books out there that I think would make really lovely gifts.

For the fashionistas among us, there is Icons of Fashion which kind of serves as an encyclopedia of fashion icons of the 20th century. For the more creative and crafty ones, I recommend Fashion Frocks, which shows some of the most iconic dresses of all time and offers patterns for recreating them! How cool is that?

And then there are two other books that I just have to tell you about, one is a classic, and the other is so random and cute that it’s hard to ignore. Let’s start with the classic. Where’s Wally used to be one of my favorite books when I was a child and I still find pleasure in trying to find that funny little guy. I’m sure a lot of people would love this as a christmas gift!

And the last one, no need for a lot of words, just look at it. It’s an entire book about the cutest dog in the world, Boo. Yes. That’s it. Photos of Boo in different daily situations. Adorable, funny, and most of all, very random. Perfect as a gift!

All books are available at Urban Outfitters.

Tights and Socks and What to Do With Them

photo1 Tights and Socks and What to Do With Them

This weekend, I finally organized my tights and socks. What’s there to organize, you might ask. Well, basically all my socks and tights were just thrown in a corner that no one could see before and I found myself hectically looking for the right pair every morning. But then, I had this awesome idea. My mum once gave me this hanger with holes that apparently is supposed to be used for scarves. Instead of hanging scarves on it, I just hung my tights through the holes and even organized them according to colors. That will hopefully save me some time in the morning. My socks, on the other hand, are still a mess… if anyone has tips on how to organize socks, let me know!

It’s Oktoberfest Time!

Tomorrow the beer mayhem will start again for me and my friends, we will go to Oktoberfest! I had so much fun last time (two years ago) so I am really excited to go back. Moreover, Munich is like my second home now since I lived there for three months during my internship at InStyle. My dirndl this year looks quite traditional, red and white, and I even got a suiting hat, necklace and pretzel earrings! As some of you might know, Julia Stegner loves to attend Oktoberfest, too and was actually discovered there, which makes it an important places for Julia. I really hope I’ll see her there this year, that would be like the cherry on top of a great trip!

Put a Ring on It

p1070096 Put a Ring on It

If there is one thing that I never stop buying, it’s rings. My obsession with rings began about two years ago and it wont end soon. It is just so easy to buy a ring, you put it on, no need for a changing room, no waiting, no disappointment if it doesn’t fit, just try a different finger, most of the time they’re cheap so there’s no bad feelings afterwards etc etc etc…

By now I own a great collection of gold and silver rings, most of them have either huge stones or some kind of animal on them (I have four owl rings… is that crazy?) and I can proudly say that I wear almost all of them (in contrast to my clothes). Some more expensive ones are precious gifts I got from my parents or my BF which I am very careful not to lose.

Rings also make amazing souvenirs! I bought this ring on one of the Greek islands I went to a few weeks ago, it has the same color as the ocean there, a beautiful minty blue and every time I look at it, it reminds me of the great day I had there when I bought it.

Gotta <3 Rings!

I laughed, I sighed, I cried… the royal wedding was too beautiful for words and the fact that Princess Catherine wore an Alexander McQueen dress that looked absolutely stunning surely makes her the most fashionable princess bride ever. I cant think of a single thing that wasnt perfect about her look and William looked pretty good, too! What a fairy tale come true…

Sissi

If you are German, Austrian or Swiss, you will probably know Romy Schneider very well and you will also have seen her most popular movie “Sissi”. If you’re from somewhere else, let me explain this. Romy Schneider was an Austrian actress who became famous over night for her role as empress Sissi in 1955. There are three movies actually, all of them wonderfully cheesy and oh so romantic. In Germany, they’re always shown on TV around christmas so I just watched one of them and noticed how incredibly beautiful Romy Schneider was and how amazing the costumes and the hair and make up were. I love all of her empress dresses, her hair which looks as if it took hours to make those hair dos and her youthful elegance. It’s hard to find such beauty nowadays.
