Yesss! I finally live in a city that has a TOPSHOP! The Sydney store on George street opened four days ago and has been packed to the max ever since. I went on a TOPSHOP spree yesterday and was quite impressed by the four level store. It has everything you can imagine… fab clothes, make up, jewellery, bags, lingerie, and some really friendly staff.
There must have been nearly a thousand customers in there but thanks to a lot of staff members, the wait in line at the changing rooms was only ten minutes (I’m used to way worse scenarios at Primark in Frankfurt… 30 minutes is normal there). Of course I ended up purchasing a lot and the 10% student discount is only encouraging my shopaholic behaviour.
I bought summery white studded canvas loafers that are just perfect for nearly every outfit, a burgundy super soft high waisted skirt, a tribal pattern body con dress, freaky green/blue nail polish and a spiky bracelet. The prices are similar to Zara, typical high end street. I know I’ll be back soon!
Yesterday, at Sydney’s Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, I got to meet Miranda Kerr. If you’ve read my blog in the past, you now that I am a big fan of hers pretty much ever since I first saw her in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2006. So when I read that Miranda would be at FNO to promote her KORA Organics line, I didn’t hesitate to get there early, line up for 45 min, spend a small fortune on her products (review will follow) and then…. finally meeting her and getting our picture taken.
I’m afraid there’s nothing surprising to say about her. She’s gorgeous, she’s very friendly, she’s patient and very professional. It seems like Miranda has it all. Her mum was there too and I could definitely see where Miranda got her good looks from. 2012 seems to be a good year for me for meeting supermodels. After KK in January, Miranda was the icing on the cake.
Besides my fan-experience there, FNO was a whole lot of fun. My friends and I took tons of funny pictures, drank heaps of free drinks and in between all the craziness and thousands of people, we even managed to shop a little. The warm night with temperatures around 20 degrees made it even more pleasant to walk around Pitt Street and Martin Place.
While holding all the goodie bags, drinks, and polaroids, it was hard to take my own pictures, but I managed to get a few snaps:
On friday, I had the pleasure of meeting Whitney Port at the Pitt Street Sportsgirl store in Sydney where she launched her collection for the Australian fashion chain. As a teenager, I watched Whitney work her way up in the fashion industry in the reality TV show “The Hills” and later on in her own show “The City”. I’ve always adored her long healthy blonde hair and her down to earth personality, so meeting her and seeing what she was really like was a cool experience for me.
Taking into consideration that Whitney had travelled a lot during the days before the event and that she was probably very jet lagged, I can’t blame her for seeming a little tired and not very smiley. She was there for about half an hour and presented her favorite Sportsgirl looks, which included lots of floral prints, cropped blouses, and shorts. There was really nothing ground breaking about the outfits, but Whitney repeatedly said that she wants her fashion to be accessible and wearable and that she is inspired by girls like you and me that she sees on the street everyday. Well, let’s just say that she definitely achieved the “wearable” in her collection, I just wish it had been a little more edgy, but then again it needs to sell so it can’t be.
Whitney answered lots of questions from the audience and what surprised me most, was her answer to the question ‘What was it like to work with Lauren Conrad?’. Besides the fact that she is probably quite sick of questions about her reality TV shows, Whitney said that it was fun, but at the same time, it was never planned that she would be part of “The Hills”. Lauren and the camera crew just walked into the Teen Vogue office where Whitney coincidentally started her internship the same day as Lauren (You can actually see the scene in one of the first episodes). So before Whitney knew it, she was part of the show and that’s where the snowball effect started and Whitney ended up with her own show and now, her own fashion line. Just another example of how life is what happens while you’re busy making plans.
Overall, the event was really well organised by the Sportsgirl staff who handed out goodie bags and supplied drinks and snacks for everyone. So even though Whitney’s appearance was rather short, it was a really nice evening. Thanks Sportsgirl!
Take a look at the pictures I took and see for yourself if you like her collection…
4 weeks no post! Wow, I myself am shocked about this, but at least I got a good excuse. I moved to the other end of the world, Sydney. And since something like that requires nerves of steel, a lot of time and patience, I just couldn’t get around to blogging. Sorry about that, but from now on there should be regular updates again.
Of course one of the first things I did after arriving was exploring the Australian fashion scene. The interesting thing about Australia is, when it comes to brands, they aren’t as globalized as other countries yet, meaning, huge brands like H&M, Urban Outfitters, or Forever 21 haven’t found their way over the ocean yet so consequently, there are lots of Aussie brands that dominate the shopping streets.
Examples for Australian clothing chains are Forever New, Portmans, Sportsgirl, and Cotton On. The prices are without a doubt higher than H&M, more like Topshop and the style is very trendy, hip, and bold. I enjoy the selection very much, but at the same time I have to admit to myself that I just can’t buy a new dress every week (like I sometimes used to in Germany), because it’s just too damn expensive.
Anyways, of course I did buy stuff already and what exactly, I’ll show you in a later post.
Today, the new H&M Fall catalogue was in my mailbox so of course, I didn’t waste time before flipping through the pages. For some reason, I find that H&M’s fall collections are much better than their spring ones. Obviously, it didn’t take long until I found some pieces that I could totally see myself wearing. The only problem is that I will spend the next eight months in Australia (yaaay!) and… well… that Aussies haven’t jumped on the H&M wagon yet. Aparently there are plans for a Sydney H&M store, but who knows how long it will take them until the actual opening. My guess would be until the end of 2013.
Anyways, I have three more days in Germany and I hope that I can find at least some of the following pieces in stores already:
Black lace shorts. Good thing about these ones is, they are not ridiculously short like most others.
Black studded loafers. I love loafers, I love studs.
Down Under, the Australian Fashion Week has just come to an end, which, for me, means that it’s time to look at the hair and make up of some of the shows. For some reason, I have the feeling that Australia is extra-creative when it comes to the models’ styling. They love to try new things and aren’t afraid to mix colors. My favorite hair and make up definitely goes to Alice McCall, who was inspired by Hungary and the ‘Babushka’ look. The messy milk maid braid is nothing new, but I still can’t get enough of it and the combination with baby blue eyes and rosy lips is just too cute!
A bolder look could be seen at Magdalena Velevska. Very dark eyebrows were combined with yellow lips. Yes, YELLOW lips! A bit crazy, but definitely something you wont forget. I kind of like it. Of course, it’s not an everyday look, but the contrast of dark brows and light lips really works for me!
Last, but not least, the most summery and fun styling of them all: We Are Handsome. That’s the name of the brand, just FYI. The colorful styling just screamed “beach party!!!”. Again, the lips were the focus, but this time, one color wasn’t enough. Both Orange and Pink were used on the lips. Now if this isn’t encouraging to try something new, I don’t know what is…
While I’m in rainy Munich the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week is happening in Sydney. I would LOVE to be there because I really love the Australian fashion and think their style is really young and inspiring. So instead of being there I was looking through hundreds of pictures today and found some really amazing backstage pictures. I made this little collage above, it’s like an inspiration board for me for upcoming make up experiments. I really wanna try the dark pink lipstick/nail polish combo, so cute! And the ribbons that are painted on the models are so cool too, I wish I could have seen those looks in reality…sigh.
It’s spring!!!! Finally warm sunny days, the smell of flowers and the sound of birds, it’s like the world awakes from a long sleep. If you love spring as much as I do, I got the perfect music to accompany you through those nice long days. Daisy Hicks. I got to know her music through a friend of mine and I wanna recommend it to all my readers. All week I’ve been listening to her album “Daisy” and couldn’t help but be reminded of Vanessa Paradis in some songs, others reminded me of Delta Goodrem which is not surprising knowing that Daisy lived in Sydney for a long time. My favorite song of the album is “Baby you know”, I love the beautiful melody , the romantic lyrics and the relaxing vibe of it. Probably the most catchy song of the album is “If I can’t make it”, it clearly stands out and is perfect for singing along, love it! Other favorites of mine are “Heartbreak Hill” and “So lonely” because of the nice guitar sound. So if you wanna see for yourself what I’m talking about, go have a look at her website hereand watch the video that I posted above.
Alright, so I am back in Berlin and honestly I am pretty disappointed by my bad timing, because if I stayed a week longer I would have met Miranda Kerr today. Boohoo…I know. Miranda has been in Sydney for a week now and was very busy, as always. Today she promoted her Kora skincare line at David Jones and also signed autographs for fans. But lets start with her arrival. It’s pretty clear that Miranda loves maxi-dresses, on the plane or on the way to a photoshoot, Miranda sported these casual long dresses combined with short jackets. The day after her first shoot she went to renew her drivers license and of course couldnt hide from the paparazzi once again, wearing a multi-colored skirt and light blue blouse, also love the sunglasses! A few hours later Miranda had a business dinner at Bondi Beach and looked amazing in a black Prada dress before she was the star of the David Jones Winter collection fashion show on wednesday morning. She walked down the runway next to Nicole Trunfio in outfits of Aussie designers like Sass&Bide. Who thought that this was the end of her promo tour is wrong, Miranda Kerr woke up early this morning to give some interviews to morning shows, wearing an amazing blue silky outfit, can she get any more gorgeous??? Finally, she promoted Kora at David Jones and knowing her, she might be doing another photoshooting now. She’s impressive, I don’t know where she gets her energy from but I would love to have a bit of that….and also her dresses. So here’s one week with Miranda Kerr in pictures…
I’m gonna go home to Berlin in two days so here’s my Aussie Fashion review: I love the laid back surfer style that girls seem to pull off quite well here, I especially like that the sporty/sexy Alexander Wang style is pretty big here, Aussie girls love short but wide tops and Tees combined with Ray Ban Wayfarers. The biggest trend here of the summer though is definitely stripes, mostly navy stripes and let me tell you, I’ve completely fallen for it too. As you can see I bought this cute Sportsgirl chain bag and the cardigan behind it. I actually bought another cardigan with navy stripes just a different cut. Bad news is… I wont be able to wear this summery trend until May or June when it gets warm in Berlin again but when it’s time, I will wear my stripes with pride ; )
