Last week, I got to spend Queen’s Day with my friends in Amsterdam. It was a whole lot of fun, we rented a boat and went through Amsterdam’s iconic canals all day. At one point, I spotted this beautiful blonde woman sitting on the boat next to me. She was wearing a black fur coat and huge designer sunglasses. And then I thought “I know those cheekbones“!

It was Natasha Poly and - just like the first time I met her (read about it here) - nobody else seemed to know/recognize her so when I yelled her name she seemed surprised. I asked if I could take her picture and she happily posed for me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a glimpse of her baby bump because of the huge coat. Her husband was on the boat too (and some very cheap looking girls) and they seemed to have a good time.

So now I’ve bumped into Natasha Poly twice. Pretty cool if you ask me. Hmm… I wonder which other topmodel I will meet in the future. I would love to bump into Frida Gustavsson or Daphne Groeneveld. You never know… they might be just around the corner.

I’m sitting in the uni library and should technically be writing my bachelor thesis right now, but instead, I’m blogging *pats herself on the shoulder*. Anyways, there is this cool new watch I thought I should share with my readers. It’s called Time Traveller by Mr Jones Watches and it’s a bit different to a normal watch. It uses 16 landmarks from all around the world, each standing for a different time zone. So you can see Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge etc.

Here’s how it works: Depending where you are, you choose the according landmark as your hour hand, which will then make one full rotation in 24 hours. That’s right, you have 24 instead of 12 hour points on this watch, so basically the left side is a.m. and the right side is p.m. Moreover, there’s a little red pigeon which works as the minute hand.

I love this idea and think that this watch is amazing for travellers as it not only shows the time of the time zone you’re in, but also the time in other big cities around the world and it does so in a very creative and fun way.

There are only 100 pieces of this watch as it is a limited edition so if you want to get it, be fast. It retails at £145 and you can get it here: http://www.mrjoneswatches.com/time-traveller/

How has nail art become so popular in the past few years? I remember, about five years ago, the only acceptable nail color was nude or red and French manicure ruled the world. How boring. Nowadays, you can sport crazy neons or even leopard print and no one will think you’re extravagant or you have bad taste. In fact, there are entire blogs about nail art, hundreds of tutorials, and even books about it.

Personally, I’ve always been quite experimental with my nails and even though I think nothing can beat a great classic red, it is fun to try out new things. My latest obsession is glitter tips that blend into black. It kind of reminds me of a starry sky and since I have received many compliments about them in the past week, I thought I’d share my way of doing them. Here’s how:

1. I use a little trick in order to make everything easier and dry quicker. Instead of just using any black as the main color, I use matte black as it dries within seconds and creates a great base for the glitter. So just paint your nails in two coats of MATTE black. I for one use Sportsgirls Matte Black.

2. After the black is dry, take any glitter nail polish that you want and paint about a third of your nail. As you can see, I have done this with a colorful glitter nail varnish (Sportsgirl) with bigger pieces of glitter, as well as with a more subtle silver/lilac glitter one (Topshop).

3. To achieve the ombre look, carefully put a few pieces of glitter towards the bottom of your nail.

4. Let dry and then paint just the tip of your nail with the glitter color again.

5. Seal with a top coat, which will also make your matte black shiny, and let dry. Done.

It’s really not that hard and takes me about 10 min in total.

I hope this was helpful and inspires some of you to try it!

Seriously, stop it! As I have already said in this post, there is one it piece every season that makes its way into every editorial, red carpet and celebrity closet on earth and there is no doubt that this season it is the SS13 Louis Vuitton checkered dress. It is almost ridiculous how overexposed it has become in the past few weeks. There are hardly any magazines at the moment that don’t feature the boxy 60s inspired dress in an editorial and in some extreme cases it even appears on their covers *cough*Glamour*cough*.

But it doesn’t stop at editorials, no, this dress has been worn by dozens of celebrities this award season, to name a few: Miranda Kerr, Jessica Alba, Kristen Stewart etc. Yes, they’ve worn different colors, but that doesn’t make it any better.

I just don’t understand why this dress had to become the it piece of the season. I find it boring and not flattering at all on most people. There is nothing interesting about it, it doesn’t photograph well and I’m feeling rather dizzy after looking at so many squares for a while.

The point I am trying to make is: Let’s move on, please! I am sure even Marc Jacobs would be bored to death by the overexposure of his dress by now. There are so many other beautiful dresses in the SS13 collections, time to let them shine. Enough of the squares.

Ok, beauty lovers, it’s time for another beauty product review. This is NOT a sponsored post, I am simply sharing my experience with you and I like writing about brands that I love and use on a daily basis. Benefit is one of them. I have been using their concealer and highlighter and my latest addition is their new “brightening cheek and lip trio” called Fine One One.

Before I share my opinion, here’s a funny anectode. When I bought Fine One One, the sales lady was dressed in a pink police woman outfit and looked like it was Halloween. I was a bit confused at the start, but soon enlightened when she told me that Fine One One was a reference to the American police’s phone number 911 and because it is a new product, she gets to walk around like a sexy benefit police woman all day. Right, makes sense now.

Anyhow, let’s move on with the facts. Fine One One is a creamy blusher, highlighter, and lip color all in one. The texture is very silky and it is super easy to apply. The champagne colored highlighter should be at the top when applying it one your cheeks, so the result is beautiful coral pink cheeks while the area under your eyes is highlighted. So, simply start at the middle of your cheeks and drag Fine One One diagonally towards your temple. Then all you have to do is combine the colors with your finger in a circular motion. It is really easy and the color looks natural when applied just once; if you want a more dramatic look, apply it twice.

As mentioned before, you can use Fine One One on your lips as well, which is great because it always looks nice if your lips and cheeks are a similar color. However, I would suggest to either put some lip balm on before using Fine One One on your lips, or sealing it with some gloss as the color alone is a bit dry.

In a nutshell, Benefit Fine One One is a product that I can honestly recommend and it is nice to have in your pocket when going out as you can pretty much apply it anywhere within seconds. With $42 AUD, it is not cheap, but will last you a long time.

The return of me blogging shall begin with the return of the sweatshirt! Don’t you just feel great when there’s a trend that you like AND it’s a comfortable one? Well, I do. To be fair, the sweatshirt trend started quite long ago with some of the first collections of Alexander Wang, but only in the past few months have sweatshirts become socially acceptable, i.e. they can be worn casually just as well as dressed up. The bottom line is, despite their name, they have nothing to do with sweating anymore and are not limited to your workout wardrobe.

Ever since Balenciaga sold thousands of sweatshirts with galaxy prints last season, other designers have quickly picked up on the trend, like Phillip Lim. His latest collection is a-ma-zing, inspired by bikers and of course includes some fabulous sweatshirts (see center picture above). Since I am not a millionaire, I will have to make peace with the high street retail knock-offs, but to be honest, they aren’t bad at all. I included some of my favorites above, starting in the top left corner and going clockwise they’re from Sportsgirl, Topshop, H&M, and again, Topshop. I tried on the white one a few days ago and let me tell you, the fabric is so soft, you will feel like hugging a golden retriever puppy all day.

As you can tell, I love the sweatshirt trend. What do you think about it?

After wearing huge, chunky rings for a loooong time, I have a new obsession: Small rings and finger tip rings. I was inspired by this photo of Lauren Conrad’s rings and found them so pretty that I went and bought similar ones. And to everyone who thinks finger tip rings fall off easily, I can tell you that they don’t, because they are really light and just stick to your finger if they are the right size.

As you can see, I am also wearing small hoops around my wrist, they complement the rings perfectly and just look so elegant. Small rings and hoops like this are much cheaper than big, chunky jewelry, which is another reason to love this style! I hope you like it as much as I do.

I have been obsessed with the galaxy trend lately. I don’t know what it is about those starry night/ outer space pictures, but I really like it. The color scheme plays a big part, all those beautiful shades of blue and purple mixed with a bit of white. The crystal necklace has been my daily companion for months now, I got it at Urban Outfitters and I love how it goes with almost every outfit. The top is from Cotton On and perfect for a night out. I think I’ll be hooked on this for quite a while…

I am not a huge hanger-on when it comes to all those social media sites. If you read blogs nowadays and look at their sidebars, you often see this overload of other sites that the blogger uses. There’s of course facebook, which I use too but only for personal contacts (and I would like to keep it that way), but then there are about a billion other things like twitter, tumblr, skype, youtube, myspace, google+ ect…. I find it way too time consuming to use all of this, but last week I decided to jump on the bandwagon of one of the latest hyped sites in the world wide web, Pinterest. I chose to because a) I was bored and b) because I love the idea of collecting pictures that inspire you.

So now, my dear readers, you can follow me on Pinterest if you care. The link is in the sidebar.

While I was browsing through hundreds of pictures on Pinterest, I stumbled upon this one showing Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta (try to ignore his hideous hair) walking through a park sometime in the 70s. I just could not help but notice how absolutely timeless Olivia’s outfit was. If Natasha Poly walked around the streets of New York in this today, no one would say she looks weird or dated. Black jeans, a loose white T-Shirt, a golden watch and nerd glasses paired with minimal make up and a casual ponytail. Fashion hasn’t changed that much after all, has it?
